Incomplete Grades in Chemistry Courses

Incomplete Grades in Chemistry Courses

While UC Davis as a whole has their own general incomplete policy, this webpage will highlight how incomplete grades are approached within the Chemistry Department specifically.

Incomplete grades are issued at the discretion of the instructor of record of a given chemistry course when a student's existing grade is of passing quality, but they are unable to complete all course assignments due to extenuating circumstances. Incompletes are only considered when the majority of coursework has already been completed with passing performance.

  • I received an incomplete in a chemistry course. What's next?
  • Please work directly with the instructor you originally took the class with. In collaboration with your instructor, identify what options are available to resolve your incomplete coursework. Because not all chemistry courses are offered every term, we recommend aiming to resolve your incomplete as soon as possible. Once issued, a student has 3 consecutive quarters (excluding summer sessions) of academic residence to resolve the incomplete grade.
  • How will an incomplete grade impact my progress in a chemistry series?
  • Due to the nature of chemistry series and how they can impact time to degree, we do allow students who have received an incomplete grade to continue on in their chemistry coursework.
  • Can I resolve my incomplete grade with a different instructor?
  • This is at the discretion of the instructor who originally assigned you the incomplete grade.
  • Can I just take the class again to resolve the incomplete?
  • No. Students must work with their instructor of record to come up with a plan.
